The Grand Finale of the Turaki’s Cup Football Tournament took place on Sunday at Government Day Secondary School, Ojagboro, with Kokobite FC emerging champions after a thrilling 3-1 victory over TBS FC.
The grassroots competition, organised by the Ojagboro Youth Development Association, was held in honour of the Senator representing Kwara Central, Sen. Saliu Mustapha, who is also the Turaki of Ilorin.
Speaking with Just Event Online TV, Prince Tunji Buhari Sulaiman, Chief of Staff to Sen. Mustapha and founder of TBS FC, described the tournament as a symbol of unity.
“This tournament strengthens bonds in our community and local government. I urge other leaders to emulate this initiative,” he said.
Prince Sulaiman also reassured the community of Sen. Mustapha’s commitment to building a mini-stadium in Ojagboro, describing the senator as a sports lover and footballer who is determined to fulfil the promise within his first term in office.
While congratulating the champions, Kokobite FC, he praised his own team, TBS FC, for finishing as first runners-up and maintaining a commendable performance throughout the tournament.
The President of the Ojagboro Youth Development Association, Mallam Muhammad Solihu Babatunde, lauded Sen. Saliu Mustapha for his unwavering support to youth and sports development in the community.
“We organised this tournament to honour the Senator because of his impactful contributions to youth development in Kwara Central,” he said.
He encouraged grassroots players to remain dedicated and disciplined, assuring them that their hard work would be rewarded. He also appreciated professional players who participated, noting that they added glamour and inspiration to the tournament.
