The Offa Township Stadium, once in a state of neglect, is now seeing a resurgence thanks to the dedication of Alhaji Muhydeen Okunlola Kayode, founder of the Muhydeen Okunlola Kayode (MOK) Foundation.

His efforts have not only breathed new life into the stadium’s main bowl but also rekindled the local passion for sports among Offa’s youth. Recognized as a humanitarian deeply committed to youth and sports development, Alhaji Kayode’s intervention has been met with widespread gratitude and praise.

The chairman of the Offa Football Council (OFC), Alhaji Adebisi Wasiu, was one of the first to commend Alhaji Kayode’s contributions.

Reflecting on the once-deplorable condition of the stadium, he shared his appreciation, saying, “Alhaji Kayode saved the main bowl of this stadium from its former state of disrepair. We commend and appreciate him. He has shown himself to be a great humanitarian, and we pray for his continued success and elevation.” Wasiu noted.

He however that additional improvements are still needed to ensure the stadium remains in optimal condition, including regular sand refills to maintain the pitch.

Addressing safety concerns, Alhaji Wasiu called attention to the stadium’s overgrown surroundings, which he believes could invite suspicious activities. “The bushy environment around the stadium could lead people to misunderstand our purpose here, potentially suspecting nefarious activities. Ensuring a well-maintained environment would help us focus purely on the sportsmanship we aim to promote,” he added.

In solidarity, Mr. A. Hassan, head of the Technical Committee, and Mr. Adebisi Muhideen Adegoke, a member of OFC, echoed the chairman’s gratitude, applauding the MOK Foundation’s continued support for the development of local sports infrastructure.

Local football players, including members of Print Best FC in Offa LG and Unique Agara from Oyun LG, also joined in expressing their appreciation.

Speaking on behalf of players in Kwara State, they emphasized the impact of Alhaji Kayode’s support on the local football community.

They conveyed their hope for further renovations, suggesting additions such as a dedicated dressing room, improved pavilions, and solar-powered lighting to enable evening matches.

Security improvements were also highlighted as a priority to protect both players and spectators.

The MOK Foundation’s commitment to the Offa Township Stadium dates back to 2023 when sports enthusiasts from within and beyond Offa Local Government voiced concerns about the deteriorating conditions of the stadium.

According to Mr. Saheed Lawal, the Foundation’s Director, “in response, the foundation initiated a series of essential renovations, starting with the pitch, which had been damaged by heavy rainfall, rendering it unsuitable for use.

“Recognizing the need for a multi-faceted approach, the foundation’s renovation plan included the provision of lawnmowers for regular grass cutting, installation of new piping to address drainage issues, replacement of blocked water pipes, extensive sand filling, and installation of water tanks to facilitate proper field maintenance.

“Through this initiative, we aim to transform the Offa Township Stadium into a venue fit for high-quality sports events, fostering a nurturing environment for athletes and fans alike.

“This project is emblematic of the MOK Foundation’s broader mission: to invest in community infrastructure that supports the growth and development of Kwara State’s youth.

“By restoring the Offa Township Stadium, Alhaji Muhydeen Okunlola Kayode is empowering the next generation of athletes, while also instilling a renewed sense of pride in the community.”
