In Yoruba land, the title “Otunba” is a prestigious honour that embodies exceptional leadership, wisdom, and significant contributions to society. Originating in the ancient kingdom of Ijebu, the title was historically reserved for high-ranking chiefs and noblemen recognized for their achievements in trade, warfare, or governance. Over time, it spread to other Yoruba kingdoms, including Oyo, Ibadan, Lagos and Kwara. Today, the title continues to honour individuals who embody leadership, wisdom, philanthropy, and a commitment to preserving Yoruba culture and heritage.
It is against this esteemed backdrop that we celebrate the conferment of the Otunba title on Mallam Lukman Olayiwola Mustapha by His Royal Majesty, Oba Johnson Olanrewaju Dada, during the Kabiyesi’s 10th anniversary on the throne of Oro-Ago Kingdom. Philanthropy has been a cornerstone of his impact. From scholarships for indigent students to supporting small businesses and driving community projects, Mallam Mustapha has consistently uplifted lives. His efforts in Baruten Local Government, where he holds the title of Baraden of Okuta Land, are benchmarks for impactful leadership.
As Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Sobi 101.9FM, Mallam Mustapha has championed responsible journalism, amplifying the voices of the people and fostering accountability. His role as a unifier in a divided nation has further cemented his legacy as a bridge builder, earning him admiration across ethnic, religious, and political divides.
