In a significant move to address the growing health concern of prostate cancer, the Leah Foundation has officially launched a comprehensive free prostate cancer screening exercise in Kwara South. This initiative is part of the foundation’s broader commitment to combat the disease and promote early detection and effective treatment among men.

The screening program aims to reach and assess the health of between 20,000 and 30,000 men throughout the state, including in the localities of Kwara South. The inauguration of the screening exercise will take  place at the ODU Hall in Offa on February 11, 2025, drawing considerable attention and participation from community members and health advocates.

Deaconess Omolewa Ahmed, the CEO of the Leah Foundation and former first lady of Kwara State, has highlighted the significant health issue of prostate cancer in Nigeria. She noted the importance of early detection for improving survival rates and pointed out that many men are either uninformed about the risks or reluctant to seek medical assistance. To address this, the Leah Foundation is dedicated to offering free screening services for men aged 40 and above. She encourages all eligible individuals to utilize this invaluable opportunity to safeguard their health and well-being.

The screening exercise is set to be carried out in close collaboration with a team of qualified medical professionals, ensuring that each participant receives accurate assessments and guidance. Notably, the initiative has garnered the support of popular Nollywood celebrities, who are lending their influence to raise awareness about prostate cancer, its risks, and the importance of early detection and treatment.
