Kwara State Government has taken the Kwara State Training, Repair, Empowerment and Community Ownership (KWATRECO) project to Kwara North, a statement said on Tuesday.

The team led by Senior Special Assistant on Community Development Dr Lawal Olohungbebe were in Patigi, Patigi local government area, from Sunday to Monday.

Several members of the community from Patigi, Lade and Kpada were trained on repair and maintainance of boreholes for the use of the public.

Afterwards, pumps were fixed (as practical) by the trainees in several places including at Injegi Pkayi house and Emi Ndakwaki area in Patigi.

Reacting to the development, a community leader Alhaji Mahmood commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for the initiative, saying the intervention would aid access to water in the local government.

“We appreciate the Kwara State government for coming up with this initiative. We got tired of bringing experts from Ilorin to fix the pumps. That’s why we have abandoned it. Our women have been walking far distance to fetch water since we abandoned it. But now, we have gotten our pump back. We are so happy that if anything happens to it in the future, we have our own boys in the community on whom we can call.”
