The Executive Chairman of Ifelodun Local Government, Hadji Abdulrasheed Femi Yusuf, has noted that his administration is committed to revolutionising the Agricultural sector in the Local Government.

The Chairman stated this when he hosted the leadership of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) in Ifelodun, led by Hon. Friday Kola Garuba, to discuss collaborative efforts aimed at improving food security in the area on Thursday at the Council Secretariat in Shaare.

Hon. Garuba, the AFAN Chairman, highlighted that the organization, though non-governmental, represents all sectors of farming associations in Nigeria. He acknowledged the support of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, stating, “Ifelodun contributes significantly to food production due to our fertile land. We appreciate Governor Abdulrazaq for providing farmers with essential equipments that will aid higher productivity across board and further ensure food security.”

“We would like to see Ifelodun Local Government expand into diverse types of agriculture, including poultry, irrigation, and fish farming, which would boost revenue and create job opportunities for our youth,” he added.

Hadji Femi Yusuf emphasized the importance of Ifelodun’s extensive and fertile land towards contributing to the food base of Nigeria, while also reiterating his commitment to leveraging this resource for agricultural development. “Ifelodun has vast land that must be utilised for large-scale mechanized farming. It’s time we make full use of our land for agricultural purposes, creating demonstration farms across all 18 wards of Ifelodun,” he stated.

He further elaborated on plans to revive poultry and fish farming, “As part of our agenda to create employment within the agric eco-system, we will engage our youths in Aquaculture and poultry sub-sectors. We will allocate space to them to start their fishing and egg production businesses.”

“We need to do the hard work, Ifelodunj Local Government Area has no business in complaining about high cost of food, very soon, we will embark on Operation Go back to the farm across all the 18 wards in the Local Government and it is in that vein that we are also putting in place a good security network that will complement our investment in Agriculture.”

Other dignitaries present at the meeting include, Hon. AGF Salahuddeen, Member representing Omupo Constituency at the Kwara State House of Assembly; Hon. Nike Ajibola, Vice Chairman of Ifelodun Local Government; and Chief Ademola Zubair, Chief of Staff to the Chairman.
