Dennis Idahosa, the House of Representatives member representing Ovia Federal Constituency, has secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidacy for the September 21, 2024, Edo governorship election.

Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo, who chaired the APC Edo Governorship Primary Election Committee, announced this outcome following the election’s conclusion on Saturday in Benin.

Uzodimma disclosed that Idahosa garnered 40,483 votes, emerging victorious over eight other aspirants.

The announcement of Idahosa’s win followed a disturbance when thugs disrupted the collation of primary election results.

Although the primary took place earlier across the 18 local government areas of the state, thugs stormed the collation center in Benin City later in the day. They confiscated cameras belonging to media personnel and forced journalists to vacate the venue. The disruption prompted attendees to seek safety, leading to the relocation of the collation to another venue. Before the disruption, results from eight council areas had been announced. However, the official declaration of the primary’s winner for the September 21, 2024, governorship election in Edo State is still pending. (Compiled from reports by NAN and Channels TV)
