The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) on Sunday issued a stern warning to Air Peace over attempts to derail its ongoing investigation into allegations of exploitative ticket pricing and other consumer rights violations.
The FCCPC stated that its investigation also includes inquiries into other alleged unfair business practices by the airline.
This comes after Air Peace reportedly claimed it was not under investigation. In a statement by the FCCPC’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Ondaje Ijagwu, the commission accused the airline of using media channels to mislead the public and sow confusion regarding the probe.
The FCCPC emphasized that Air Peace’s assertion that only aviation regulators have the authority to investigate its operations reflects a misunderstanding of the legal framework governing consumer rights.
The commission clarified that passengers are consumers whose rights are protected under the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act (FCCPA).
Reiterating its commitment to the investigation, the FCCPC said, “No amount of blackmail or cowboy tactics can stop the Commission from the ongoing thorough investigation of the allegations against Air Peace, with a view to taking appropriate action in accordance with the provisions of the FCCPA.”
The commission assured the public that it remains steadfast in its mission to ensure fairness, transparency, and accountability in the aviation sector.
