Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State on Tuesday chastised the contracting firm, Dora-Dan Global Resources handling the 9.1km Isheagu-Ewulu road project in Aniocha South Local Government Area of the state.
The governor who was visibly angry with the firm over the substandard side drains of the project described the action of the contractor as “pure wickedness” and warned the contractor to immediately return to site. Oborevwori urged him to do the needful by correcting all the observations, if not he would not commission the over N4billion project.
The governor made his observations known while inspecting multi-billion naira Ubu bridge along sector C1 of the ongoing Ughelli-Asaba road dualisation project in the council area. The Isheagu-Ewulu contract, SaharaReporters reliably gathered, was awarded sometimes in 2021 by the former administration of Ifeanyi Okowa to Dora-Dan Global resources, owned by one Ifeanyi, an ally of Okowa who hails from Okowa’s Delta North senatorial district of the state.
It was gathered that during the administration of Okowa, many of his kinsmen especially from Delta North senatorial district registered so many firms which sources described as “mushroom companies” were awarded multi-billion naira contracts by the government of Okowa but usually executed with substandard materials. On the Ubu bridge along sector C1 of the ongoing Ughelli-Asaba Road dualisation project at Ogwashi-Uku in Aniocha South Local Government Area, Governor Oborevwori disclosed that the project would be ready in December, 2024, even as he expressed satisfaction on the asphalt work on the 9.1km Isheagu/Ewulu road.
“We are just coming from Isheagu/Ewulu road that’s a 9.1km road. They have done the binding and the wearing course, we are satisfied with the asphalt work. But we are having a little issue with the drains which we have asked them to make some corrections before we can commission the project. Without that I will not be commissioning the project. My administration has zero tolerance for substandard projects.
“We are here now to inspect this Sector C1. This is one of the most critical part of the dualisation of Ughelli/Asaba road. This is not the first time I am coming here. I have been here three times and you can see now that they are having challenges with the rains. You heard the supervisor who explained that the rains are disturbing them.
“But the good thing is that they have assured us that by December, they will be able to finish the bridge. Once they are able to do that, the other work will no longer be too difficult. They don’t have any reason not to work because they are on ISPO, so they don’t lack money.”
