The Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), under the leadership of its National President, Dr. Usman Oladipo Akanbi, held its national convention at its secretariat located at Mamman Vatsa Village, Mpape, Abuja. The event which started on the 31st of October ended today, the 3rd day of November, 2024.
The event featured various events and activities which included the Annual General Meeting (AGM), workshops, poetry competitions, a book fair, and the presentation of various awards and cash prizes for authors, including the 1,000,000.00 Naira Chinua Achebe Literary Prize (CALP), sponsored by the Anambra State Government.
Asides from prizes presented to members of ANA, two distinguished members were awarded for supporting the nurturing of creativity. They were the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Senator Saliu Mustapha, the Turaki of Ilorin, and Alh. Hakeem Oladimeji Lawal, the Chairman of Awliya Foundation.
The scion of the late Governor of Kwara state and Chairman of Awliya Foundation, Alh. Hakeem Oladimeji Lawal, was represented by his Personal Assistant, Mr. Issa Mutolib Ayobami, who is also a member of ANA.
In his words: “I believe the aim of writing is to educate, and Hakeem Lawal is one of the champions of education in Kwara state.”
He noted that his foundation (Awliya Foundation) provides full scholarship for students at various levels, including tertiary education. He also pledged support for ANA, whilst promising that it wouldn’t be a one-off thing.
“Thank you very much ANA.” He concluded by appreciating the body for the honour and recognition.
